Electric Zoo is officially headed east. Following Ultra’s pioneering settlement in 8 Asian nations this past summer, and Insomniac’s recently announced EDM India, New York’s Electric Zoo Festival will be sailing across the pacific this fall to the land of China.
Called “Electric Zoo: Countdown Shanghai”, Electric Zoo will hold a one-day festival event in Shanghai, China on the 12th November, 2016. In collaboration with Asian music service Kanjian, the new Chinese event will feature commissioned art, as well as the Octopus stage that made its appearance at Electric Zoo in New York this past Labor Day.
“Following the success of Electric Zoo New York 2016 we felt the perfect next move was to continue the expansion of the festival to new markets. We couldn’t have picked a more exciting market – Shanghai, or a better partner – Kanjian,” said Adam Richman, SVP of Made Event-New York and Director of Electric Zoo at SFX Entertainment, Inc. “Electric Zoo Countdown is the perfect introduction of our brand to China and will be the stepping stone to bigger editions of Electric Zoo throughout Asia.”
Having recently expanded the brand globally to Mexico and Japan, the music festival organizers believe Shanghai is the perfect place to hold its next international event.
“The world’s great cities are where people come together, get creative, innovate, and inspire. Electric Zoo was created in one of those cities – New York – and we can’t wait to bring it to another one – Shanghai,” said Jeff Wright, Creative Director at Made Event. “Electric Zoo is all about bringing people together in the places where that balance and exchange of energy happens. We can’t wait to share a first taste of the Electric Zoo experience with the people of China!”
Last summer, China cracked down on public gatherings, cancelling everything from the Strawberry Music Festival to an Earth Day Event, so fans will need to remain cautiously optimistic about the latest edition of Electric Zoo.
