Coachella and Lollapalooza Ban Selfie Sticks

Following in the recent Ultra Music Festival’s footsteps, Coachella and Lollapalooza have officially banned selfie sticks.

The upcoming festivals are taking a stand against the suddenly ubiquitous selfie apparatuses by listing them as prohibited items on their respective websites.

Under allowed and prohibited items, Lollapalooza’s website indicates that cameras are allowed, but “only non-professional photo and video cameras . . . and must be without equipment attachments such as selfie sticks, tripods and monopods.” The point is emphasized again under prohibited items, where “photo attachments like sticks, selfie sticks & monopods” are listed.

Coachella describes their ban more succinctly, banning “Selfie Sticks / Narcissists.”

It’s a welcome stance given how disruptive selfie sticks can be (not to mention the risk of getting wanged in the head my one). But while we applaud Coachella’s ban on narcissists, we’re not sure how they’ll screen for that one. If only …

Coachella begins April 10, and Lollapalooza begins July 31.
