The Battle of the Mega DJS

Deadmau5 11

The battle of the DJ’S in Las Vegas has begun.   The mega clubs on the strip recently began booking Dance DJ’S at out of this world price tags — yes, Dance DJ’s.   Deadmau5 was recently signed for a 2 year deal worth a staggering $20 million.   While this is a huge paycheck for a single artist, it only represents a fraction of a bigger, whopping $75 million deal among three global DJs. Deadmau5 was quoted at Ultra Music Festival that dance music had gone through a dark age for a while and now really come out ahead in recent years, but with big paychecks also come big egos.

At Ultra Music festival this year, it was reported that Afrojack snubbed EDM reporters after failing to show up to several scheduled interviews, some of which also noted that this has become a recurring theme for the dutch DJ.  Bad move Afrojack — if it’s one thing politicians in America already know, media can make and break you (just ask Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin).

The Las Vegas nightclub industry is worth approx a billion dollars out of a $50 billion industry and is dominated by XS, Surrender, Tryst and Tao.  Within the next six months, three new clubs including the Cirque du Soleli venture will open to flight for a piece of the action.
