What Is Love 2016 – Lost Frequencies

When it comes to remixes, leave it to Lost Frequencies to add his signature touch. He has been called upon to remix tunes for Major Lazer ft Justin Bieber & MØ (“Cold Water”), Armin van Buuren ft Sharon den Adel (“In And Out Of Love”), Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs Ummet Ozcan (“The Hum”), and Moby (“In This World”). Now the Belgian producer has taken on a classic club song “What Is Love” and given it an entirely new spin on the beat, thus releasing “What is Love 2016”.

The original track “What Is Love,” which was released in 1993 by Haddaway and spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Eurochart Hot 100 in summer 1993 and eventually hit No. 1 in 13 countries. It’s impossible to mention “What Is Love” without an aggressive head nod or four to Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell’s near-cult-status film A Night At The Roxbury, released in 1998 and based off a series of Saturday Night Live sketches that began in 1996.

The Lost Frequencies rendition of the quintessential pop-song doesn’t remind one immediately of the original. However, the homage to the original What is Love is entirely present when you consider the overall essence of the song. Both have a looping, philosophical acquiescence about love that is only met with an increasingly passionate rhythm, and a seamless transition to an even chorus, a signature move by the music producer.

Altogether, “What is Love 2016″ by EDM DJ Lost Frequencies allows one to ponder the question posed, without necessarily arriving at the answer by the end, just like its predecessor did.

The song is a track on Lost Frequencies’ breakthrough artist album Less Is More.
