Alessia Cara Reveals Why She Performs Without Makeup

Just 20-years of age, Canadian star, Alessia Caracciolo, professionally known as Alessia Cara has accomplished what many noted artists, let alone teenagers, have through their entire careers. She has opened for Coldplay, has had two tracks off her debut on the Hot 100, and she’s shared stage with Beyoncé. And with such success, if you imagine Cara’s on cloud nine with a constant stream of praise and support, you are mistaken.

She reminisces, after landing on one of her biggest performances then (2015-16 New Year’s Eve), she was bewildered by the negativity she had to endure; being called ‘homeless‘ and that she looked she ‘worked at Wal-Mart‘, all for wearing a pair of gray jeans during her set !! “The thing that bothered me most was that most of the comments were from other women,” Cara said.

Instead of cringing to the criticism, Cara rebelled against the norms of society’s definition of beauty. In a tweet last week, she says “It only feels right to be my true self while singing about self-acceptance. Every time I perform this song [“Scars to Your Beautiful”], I am choosing to be 100% natural.”
