Brooke Hogan, as we first became acquainted in 2005 sitting in front of the television, still has a youthful, wide-eyed exuberance and excitement about her. Fast-forward to present day, Brooke Hogan, the “girl next door” that we’ve grown to love, has become a confident young woman, singer/songwriter and recording artist who’s come into her own. “I’ve become comfortable in my own skin. I’m not testing the waters, I’m prepared to dive right in because I’m confident I can swim!”
Born Brooke Ellen Bollea, Brooke Hogan is most-well known as the only daughter of pro-wrestling legend Hulk Hogan. She was discovered by the masses in their wildly famous reality TV show series, “Hogan Knows Best” (2005-07) and her own spin-off “Brooke Knows Best” (2008-09). As her audience watched the comedic and endearing aspects of her personal life, the most significant of her talents (as a professionally trained piano player and dancer, a prolific songwriter, polished vocalist and extraordinary entertainer on the music stage) remained a hidden treasure.
“People think I was a reality star that had a sudden urge to try my hand in music. It was, in fact, the other way around.
What people don’t know is that I took dance, piano lessons and sang long before our family became ‘television
famous.’ I signed my first record contract at 13. The head of the label (Lou Perlman/ Transcontinental Records)
suggested we do a show to promote the music; our initial goal for the television show was to introduce and launch
my music career.”
Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Brooke grew up inspired by the music that filled the Hogan home. “I was fortunate to be introduced to a wide spectrum of music from various genres. My mother loved everything with
soul from the The Isley brothers, Teddy Pendergrass and Sade…to the Dixie Chicks, Loretta Lynn and Carly Simon. Dad, on the other hand, was rock-head; he loved ACDC, KISS and Mother’s Finest. I just absorbed it all.”
Brooke began studying the piano as a five-year-old. Over the course of her childhood, she took professional
dance lessons, voice lessons (her vocals were perfected by some of the industry’s best teachers), and cheerleading classes. When she turned 10, the entrepreneurial youngster took fate — and the Yellow Pages — into her own hands; she circled telephone numbers and called upon local talent agents to make introductions. Her spunky, ambitious initiative led to a modeling contract.
“I was raised to be resourceful and follow through with everything I set out to do; so that’s what I did. It’s important to me that folks understand that I didn’t just ‘fall off the turnip truck’ and suddenly want to become a singer. Music, and everything it encompasses, has always been my passion and calling from a young age. It’s something I have worked very hard toward for a very long time.”
Growing up behind-the-scenes on set and in front of the camera afforded the young entertainer valuable insight
into the entertainment industry–to become disciplined and adapt to the tireless work schedule, the demands of
her commitment, responsibilities of fame and the expectations of her audience.
She began working up to six hours a day devoting her time outside of school studies to concentrate on developing
her craft as a professional singer, musician and entertainer. By the time Brooke turned 15, she had secured
numerous high-profile gigs including performing for Radio Disney’s “Jingle Jam” and opening for the likes of Hilary
Duff, The Backstreet Boys, Pussycat Dolls, Boys To Men and Toby Keith.
Brooke made introductions in the music entertainment sector with the release of her debut single entitled
“Everything To Me.” (The track peaked at No. 1 not once, but twice, on the Top Single Sales chart–9/19/04 and
10/10/04). Super producer Scott Storch (Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, 50 Cent, Chris Brown,
Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliot) was one of the first to step forward to recognize Brooke Hogan as an authentic
“I have had the pleasure of producing some of the biggest artists in the music industry,” said Storch “Real knows
real and Brooke Hogan is the real deal. She’s an accomplished musician, singer, dancer and actress who can
cross artistic disciplines comfortably, which is unheard of in this industry.” Storch signed Miss Hogan as the Storch Music Company’s flagship artist. Brooke recorded UNDISCOVERED and released her the track entitled “About Us.” The single and corresponding music video invited 90 million-new members to MySpace. The single streamed more than 2,500,000 times and the video landed at No. 1 with 750,000 plays.
Brooke’s artistic influences run the gamut from Stevie Wonder to Pink and embrace the traditional and
contemporary sounds of Loretta Lynn, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and, her most recent admiration, Miranda Lambert. With a personal mission to redirect her career toward the place that was tugging at her heart, she made the move to Nashville in 2011 to earn her stripes.“Nashville is home for all genres of music. It’s not just the heritage of George Jones, Willie Nelson and Loretta; it’s a hodge-podge of art (musicians, songwriters and music of all sorts). I just wanted to blanket myself by the people, the energy and the heritage that songs are built upon. I wanted to fly under the radar and soak it all in so that I could truly become part of the very fiber of this community.”
Musically, Brooke discovered a comfortable residency and a process that works for her. The country music format
offered her a home for her soul and Music City rolled out the welcome mat. Brooke became a dedicated student
of music and entertainment, and a quick study. She surrounded herself with songwriter and music producer
friends with pen and paper in hand.
“Writing and recording is very different. When I wrote for Pop, we wrote to a track—the music was already there.
Since being here in Nashville, I’ve learned to ‘create’ with imagination. I picture how the chord progression will go
and the instruments that will fly through the record to embrace the story I want to tell. It’s a very intimate
Her responsibility to become a storyteller became ever-more clear. “When you realize that your songs really have an affect on people, you begin to care more about what you put out there. Music is an instrumental part of the soul—my soul. It’s a powerful language. It’s not just something in the moment; it brings you back to a moment. Music makes people feel. I take that responsibility seriously.”
With sparkling vocals, effervescent charm, ingénue appeal, lively sensation and undeniable musicality, Brooke
Hogan’s music is designed to move people. “I’m all about a good groove and an honest lyric–that moves your hips and your heart! I think people will see my true personality shine through not only in my songwriting but in the music composition as a whole.”
With full intent and good deed, Brooke Hogan is paving her way in the country music format. With no intention to
convince anyone, she is confident her music will speak for itself to make a positive impression among her peers,
within the industry and on the country music listeners as she stakes her claim in the country music arena. Brooke
Hogan is a talented treasure who adds her own neon watercolor brush stroke to the very fabric that is today’s
